The Brave

The Brave

With three of the same type of military rescue shows premiering this fall, I have chosen The Brave.

The show centers around the Defense Intelligence Agency. The main operation is handled out of a headquarters in Washington D.C. but the missions are handled in the field by a heroic Special Ops squad. This squad of specialists seems that they will have a new person or group to save every week.

In order to save those people they will have to travel to some of the most dangerous places in the world and deal with some of the most heinous people in the world as well.

The thing that sets The Brave apart from its competitors for me is the drama. Now I will still give “Valor” a chance as it hasn’t come out yet but from what I have seen my hopes aren’t too high. The morality and substance issues that the main character(s) will likely be dealing with (as can be seen from the previews and promos) have really turned me off. On the “Seal Team” side of things, I had much higher hopes until a main character was in therapy just like Riggs on the show “Lethal Weapon”. However unlike Riggs, this character is not enjoyable and does not have a Murtaugh to play off of. Seal Team has too much drama and not enough action for me.

The Brave seems like it will be the “Law and Order” of the military drama this year. Simple episodes each week with multiple sides shown to you. Issue, team sent in, problem, solution, people saved, hooray. Is it a formula? Yes. Has it been used before? Yes. Does it work? Yes. Best of all, I can miss an episode and not have to worry. I miss episodic TV where I can sit relax and just enjoy the show. If they can keep that formula up and make sure not to big things down with relationships and stringing episodes together then they have earned themselves a viewer. Not sure if I am the target audience, but I hope so because that means they will keep me happy.

The Brave is on NBC Monday nights at 10pm

TL;DR
The Brave not too much drama, not too much relationship, just issues and action all wrapped up in a nice neat little package each week.
