I got sucked into buying Dead by Daylight from watching Funhaus play it on YouTube (video below) so Behaviour if you gave them the game in hopes that it would promote it, it kinda worked.
The Basics
If you don't know Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical survival horror game. What that means is 1 person as the killer takes on 4 survivors. The killer, just as you would think, tries to kill the 4; and the survivors, you guessed, try to survive.
If you are a survivor, you live by fixing generators and escaping one of several maps where items are randomly placed. The survivor operates in third person view giving them a good lay of the landscape, you also get ques as to when the killer is near through the use of audio cues that let you know when the killer is near.
As the killer, you will be in first person view, a bit limiting on many of the maps honestly. To your advantage though you can see where the hooks you need to hang your victims from are, and both visual pop-ups and audio ques when they fail their quick time event tests.
On the Plus Side
- There is a great soundtrack and the audio events are great (I suggest playing with headphones)
- Rounds are fast and easy so you won't be bogged down in a match for extended periods of time.
- The XP system in interesting and keeps you playing to earn it and level up
The Negatives
- Unless you are the killer (the host) you're going to wait a while to get into a match
- Graphics are meh
- Only 1 way to play - hunt people or fix generators, that's it
- No in game communication for the survivors as a team
- No matchmaking with friends
- With rank resets new players and vets are often matched making for unbalanced games
- Still a bit buggy even after a year and multiple DLC releases
Overall it's a quick and simple game to waste some time and blow off some steam. Not a deep immersive experience though. Also, not something you can play with any music on or background noise, you're going to need to hear what's happening.
It's a game you may play for fun from time to time but not something that you will spend Skyrim amounts of time with.
