Agents of MAYHEM just released from Deep Silver the creators of the Saints Row franchise. The big reaction from a lot of gamers…. Where’s the multiplayer?
MY first reaction however was, I loved the Saints Row games and this is supposed to be taking place in the same universe only you play as Super Agents instead of as a gang. It’s basically open-world, third-person action of super heroes versus super villains but in the Saints Row universe.
Why there is this NEED for multiplayer with everything befuddles me. Today’s new gamer needs to realize, there was gaming before the internet and it was good. A well-built single-player campaign can be very satisfying. In fact I often prefer it. I don’t need some tool coming into my game and doing all he can to be a douche just to show that his virtual joystick is bigger than mine.
A great example of a recent fantastic release without multi-player support is Prey. A great FPS that is simply a single player campaign; you can play it multiple ways, it is very re-playable, but you do it all by yourself. There is no option for multi-player nor should there be but there was the same ruckus when that title dropped.
The younger gamer of today needs to learn how to put their phone down, turn off the interweb connection and just enjoy the game for what it is. So you can’t teabag and shame your buddy when they are a worse player than you, boo hoo. Enjoy the game for what it is and what it was meant to be. Too many titles cram multi-player aspects into them to make these people happy and it winds up making everything sucky.
Hey, if you don’t think you’ll like it, don’t buy it, but believe it or not there are some of us out there that like to play games just for the sake of playing games.
